My design philosophy is to stick to a neutral envelope of the room. Using a classic, neutral palette for the walls, floors, finishes and big ticket items, such as your sofa, allows you to add a punch of color with accents.

1) Wallpaper an accent wall

2) Make your door a statement piece

Paint your door a bold color or color block it, as seen below. If you’re not ready to take the plunge with paint, adding a decorative trim using wahsi tape is quick, easy and adds the perfect pop of color.

3. Spice up your bookshelves

Use decorative contact paper or paint on the inside of your bookshelves to give life to a room. It’s not as big of a commitment as painting the entire space and you can go bold since its a smaller area!

Remember the age old adage “Don’t judge a book by its cover?” Forget it. Adding colorful books with pretty spines and covers makes for an interesting, colorful bookshelf that adds dimension and interest to your space.

4) Use a large textile as an accent

Drape a large, colorful textile over an existing headboard for an added pop of color that can easily be changed out, or hang a tapestry for a quick piece of art that makes a bold statement.

5) Add colorful art

OK, it’s not rocket science, but art is one of the quickest ways to add color and interest to your space. And with the rise of sites like Etsy, you can afford to accessorize your space with fun, colorful pieces that pack a big punch. And when you get tired of them, retire them for a bit and hang something different!
