Wow, when we moved here to West Virginia we started over completely. We arrived here literally with our suitcases and our valuables. It has only been just over one year and the amount of “stuff” we have accumulated just blows my mind. I already have 2 junk drawers in the kitchen. And you all saw the kitchen cabinet I kept stuffing my craft supplies in. Which has since been cleaned and organized (another blog post for another time). I am always searching for ways to organize our every day supplies that are prettier than boring plastic tubs. These Upcycled Storage Options were perfect for what we needed. I will let you in on my newest favorite product…… Contact paper! Seriously! I found a 9 foot roll of contact paper at Dollar General for $2. The pattern is a geometric grayish blue and works perfectly in my “beachy” kitchen.
You can use any cardboard box you have lying around. Simply cover them with contact paper or decorative scrap booking paper. Add a few decorative accents like ribbon, twine, contrasting paper ect. and you have an adorable Upcycled Storage Container. I have even seen this done with duck tape. Which would be very cool with all the different patterns and textures they have now for duck tape.
We took a few priority mail boxes we had laying around. Cut off one of the sides so the open space was the largest. We simply applied the peel and stick contact paper to the boxes and trimmed up the edges.
I love simplicity, so adding just some simple twine around the boxes added a little bit of the beachy feel I was aiming for. Matched with the light grey, I think it works perfect in our space.
Total cost for these cute beach accents for the kitchen was just $3.00 ! The contact paper was $2 for a 9 foot roll. and the twine was $1 at the dollar tree. So affordable, simple and perfect for our storage needs for hiding our “junk”.
What do you think of these Upcycled Storage Options? How do you hide your “junk” from the world ?
