Sweet & Spicy Sticky Chicken – A New Family Favorite

We are always looking for exciting, flavorful ways to prepare chicken around this house. The teens are open to pretty much anything as long as it doesn’t have onions, vegetables, spices, green stuff …. ok ALMOST anything! haha. Pleasing their picky tastes has always been a challenge for me, but they are slowly getting better at trying new things. When I first made this Sweet & Spicy Sticky Chicken I was a little nervous since it does have a little bit of a kick. To my surprise, they LOVED it! So much so that we had 2 pieces (out of 10) left over, only because I wanted to save it for lunch the next day.

A golden brown crunchy chicken tender is coated with a sweet and spicy glaze to make this mouth-watering chicken dish a huge hit with everyone. My favorite part of all.. it is BAKED not fried! That makes them a bit more healthy for you than the deep-fried, covered in grease traditional chicken fingers.

If you are a chicken lover, they are a MUST MAKE! These chicken fingers are very easy to put together and cook up in less than 30 minutes. Perfect for a busy weeknight meal.

Sweet & Spicy Sticky Chicken

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds chicken tenders
  • 1 Cup flour
  • 2 eggs beaten with 2 Tablespoons of water
  • 1 Cup bread crumbs

  • 1 1/2 Cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 Cup hot sauce (I suggest FranksRed Hot)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 Tablespoons water

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.  Lightly grease a baking sheet.

Pound your chicken tenders to 1/2 inch thick. You can do this by putting the chicken between 2 pieces of parchment paper and gently hit it with a meat mallet or a heavy object.

Place the flour in a bowl, the egg wash in another bowl, and the breadcrumbs in a 3rd bowl.

Coat the chicken in the flour. Dip in the egg wash, then coat with the bread crumbs. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet.

Bake for 15 – 20 minutes or until chicken is no longer pink in the center.  Turning halfway through.

While your chicken is baking, prepare your glaze.

In a small pot over medium heat, combine brown sugar, hot sauce, garlic powder, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil. Continue boiling for 3 – 5 minutes stirring constantly.

When chicken is done cooking, dip each strip in the glaze and serve with ranch or bleu cheese dressing.
