Are you looking for a countertop surface that can withstand heat, stains and major scratching? Is there such a thing?
You may think that Quartz is the most durable and low maintenance product on the market. While man-made Quartz products are extremely durable, there is another material that has many quartz fans talking.
Say Hello To Dekton! Dekton by Cosentino is a new and exciting product for countertop surfaces, flooring and even exterior applications such as building facades and outdoor kitchens.
Here is what you should know about Dekton and why you will love this for your next kitchen project.
You Could Use A Blow Torch
If you are into fancy cooking or are just into pyrotechnics, think Dekton!
Dekton is heat proof. Heat. Proof. Go ahead and torch your crème brulee or sear your scallops right on your countertop. I know you would be frightened to do such a thing to your beautiful countertops, but these guys did, just to show how heat proof Dekton really is.
While I love my quartz surfaces, there are certain things you need to know about thermal shock, that I discuss in “How To Care For Quartz Surfaces”. With Dekton, there is no need to worry about thermal shock (cracking with changes in temperature).
If you aren’t so fancy, and don’t do much searing, how could this be of benefit to you? Would you like to put boiling pots of water or hot frying pans on the counter without grabbing a hot pad? Dekton is your surface.
Never EVER Worry About Stains
Ketchup, soy sauce, black beans, red wine, lemon, vinegar, make-up and even spray paint. They won’t stain. Really.
Dekton is so dense that it is non-porous. Even their whites and lighter colors won’t show stain remnants.
Scratches Won’t Penetrate
That’s right, another element in the kitchen that happens on occasion, is scratching.
Because of Dekton’s super formula and density, it is scratch proof!
What Is Dekton
Dekton is a proprietary blend of quartz, porcelain and glass.
Didn’t see that coming? Yep, it takes all of the great qualities of each raw material and fuses and compresses them together under high pressure to create a slab material.
What Is The Dekton Color Palette
Dekton has just released 5 new colors to accompany their existing 10.
Simple, yet earthy color palette, fabulous for contemporary projects.
If you have ever shopped for marble or granite, you will know that some colors will come in batches that are cut from the same mountain slab and will have consecutive or bookmatching grain.
This means that if you were using the slab for a large island or a countertop and backsplash, you could line up the grain to hide seams and create continuous vein patterns. Dekton has created bookmatching slabs.
Dekton has a matte sheen, that can be desirable when combining with high-gloss finishes for cabinetry or backsplash.
A matte finish is non-reflective (no glare with all your new LED lighting) and creates a luxurious and natural texture, like concrete.
Dekton has some colors with a flat, textured or ribbed surface pattern. The textured colors are similar to a leather finish that creates a very sophisticated look.
As if being heat proof, scratch proof and stain proof weren’t enough, Dekton has more amazing properties.
UV Resistant (can be used outdoors)
Chemical Resistant (resistant to acids and bases)
How Can You Get Dekton?
Because Dekton is new on the scene, only the super savvy designers and architects are hip to its presence. Extraordinarily enough, Dekton will also be sold in select Home Depot locations in a limited color palette.
Only a select few are trained to fabricate Dekton properly, so if you are interested, look up a fabricator. Start on Dekton’s website
