Hey there friends! Can we be real and honest with each other for a minute? How many of you have a hard time staying focused? Have so many ideas running through your head that they all gather together and cause a major mental brain block? That is totally me! Well, it was me until the day this Drop Cloth Framed Mirror was created. I have been having a little trouble staying on task lately. When that happens, I usually have to take a walk, do some cleaning, or go grocery shopping. Yep, you read that right I shop to get inspired. Seriously Kroger is a store full of wonderful ideas just waiting to be captured. While the teens are catching Pokemon, I’m running around snatching up creative ideas.
Last week while I was running around Kroger catching ideas, I was looking for something a little different than your normal everyday coffee. It was hotter than heck outside, so I was shooting for something cold and refreshing. That’s when I found Stok Cold Brew iced coffee! Right in the refrigerated section at Kroger. If you know me at all you know I am the ultimate coffee lover anyway, and the bottle even says “Bold and Smooth” That works for me.
I was pleasantly surprised at the actual smooth bold flavor Stok Cold Brew iced coffee had. I mean this stuff reminds me of perfectly brewed cafe style coffee, right in my own kitchen. Stok is pure coffee, a delicious Arabica blend, no weird ingredients. The perfect Geeked Out and Caffeinated beverage to get your mind going.
With all the ideas I snagged from Kroger, my slow brewed Stok iced coffee, and a boring mirror I picked up for free staring me right in the face, my brain finally started working and the creative juices were flowing like the Ohio river! I have been stumped with what to do to this mirror since the day I found it for FREE on the curbside. I knew exactly what I wanted to do to it now. Could it be the Stok coffee? I’m not saying it has magical powers, but it is an awfully big coincidence that my brain is working all of a sudden right? Coffee so strong it woke up my dreams!
This mirror was in great shape, but a little on the boring side for me. I have this beautiful new dining room buffet, and it needed something creative and fun to make it POP! I grabbed my paint and my stencils and went to town. What do you think? Let me show you how we made it.
Supplies you need…
Stok Iced Coffee from Kroger
Wall Mirror
2 sheets of foam board
Rotary cutter
Measuring tape
Hot glue
Canvas Drop Cloth
Stencils
Acrylic paint
Stencil brush
Start by pouring yourself a tall glass of Stok over ice.
Take a drink! Trust me this is crucial to the creative process!
Before you start making the extended frame for the mirror, you need to decide on the size you want. I added 3 inches all the way around. Measure the foam board 4 inches (3 inches for the frame plus 1 inch extra to glue to the back of the mirror)
Carefully cut all the foam board pieces.
Flip the mirror over and evenly hot glue the foam pieces all the way around the mirror.
Cut your Canvas drop cloth to fit your frame. When measuring the width of your frame be sure to add in the edges of the original frame also. My total measurements were 6.5 x 56 and 6.5 x 13.
Once the drop cloth is cut, give it a good press with an iron to get out all the wrinkles.
Start stenciling! I used inspirational word stencils and regular acrylic paint randomly placed all over the drop cloth. Adding pops of green occasionally to make it stand out.
Once your paint is dry, attach the fabric to the frame starting with the edge next to the mirror. Press the fabric firmly against the frame and the foam so there are no wrinkles.
Trim off any bits that have frayed from the drop cloth. You can add twine or ribbon around the edges for a more finished look also.
There you have it, a store bought basic mirror given loads of character with a bit of creativity and imagination.
Be sure to stop by your local Kroger store and pick up a bottle of Stok Cold Brewed Iced Coffee and find your inspiration in a bottle!
